Why does Udhara use organic cotton or Tencel?

The importance of tissues...

We use organic cotton because it is the only natural and sustainable thing you can find on the market.

It is important to mention that the existing information is ambiguous and contradictory. The decision making has not been easy, and has involved a lot of research.

Fabrics we don't like...

Polyester or polyamide are plastics. They do not perspire, they contain toxic substances such as phthalates, which are in contact with the skin all day, and specifically with intimate areas. The abundance of this material in the fashion market, specifically in lingerie, is what led me to start this project.

Bamboo is a fabric of plant origin. My first choice for Udhara. Brands sell it as a natural and sustainable fabric. However, nothing is further from reality. Bamboo has a natural origin, that's correct. Because it is obtained from the cellulose of the bamboo tree. It is true that these forests grow very fast, so the felling of the trees does not have a great impact. The question is, how is that cellulose converted into fiber for tissue? To do this, it is subjected to an industrial process, where Carbon Disulfide is used. An extremely toxic and polluting solvent for the environment. Goodbye Bamboo, we can't work together.

Cotton is born from a plant. What about cotton that is not organic? They use a lot of pesticides for their cultivation. In numbers: 3% of land use is for cotton, however 25% of the use of pesticides worldwide is for this same plant. You don't serve me cotton either...

Fabrics that we do like...

Organic Cotton is grown respecting the rotation times of the land, with natural fertilizers instead of artificial fertilizers. The dyes do not contain toxic. We want it!

Tencel is a fiber obtained from the cellulose of trees. To obtain the fiber, it goes through a process of non-toxic and 99% reusable solvents. This means that it is totally respectable with the environment and of natural origin. We also like it.

Here the reasons for selecting our fabrics.
